Remcom Consulting

Examples of EM Simulation Consulting Projects

On-Platform Antenna Analysis and Optimal Placement: A provider of air-to-ground telecommunications hired Remcom to analyze an antenna on several models of commercial airplanes. Our team analyzed the EM properties of the antenna and experimented with potential sites for mounting it on the aircraft, focusing on the ways in which the structural composition of the aircraft would affect the signal at each location. Remcom’s XFdtd provided fast, timely computations by utilizing MPI clusters and our XStream GPU solution. We were able to deliver valuable results to the customer so they could proceed with their deployment.

SAR Analysis of Implantable Medical Device: A provider of devices used to manage chronic pain utilized Remcom Consulting to analyze a nuero-stimulator (pain management device) implanted in the human body. The device, which communicates at 400 MHz, has an antenna for which Remcom provided a thorough SAR analysis. XFdtd Bio-Pro was used for this project, with Remcom’s high-fidelity human mesh. The final SAR analysis report assisted the client with obtaining FDA approval to move forward with their product.

Proof of Concept Experimental Design Analysis: Remcom helped a vehicle manufacturer with a remote heartbeat sensing project. The team performed a scattering analysis of human tissues residing between an antenna and a human heart. The work has the potential to be used in future planning for smart systems in cars that monitor driver activities such as falling asleep, or even health conditions such as heart disease.

Remcom’s team built a model and process using XFdtd to separate signals reflected off the body and to determine what portion of the signal is from skin, bone, muscle, etc. vs. the heart. This enables researchers to remove extraneous data and only analyze the heart signal. Although the antenna would be onboard the vehicle, the current studies are only to assess feasibility of the system. Though the customer had no data, Remcom created a scenario using only their ideas to examine this cutting-edge idea.

EM Analysis of a Therapeutic Device: A developer of deep tissue heating devices needed a safety analysis for one of their products. The device causes heating of the tissue beyond the skin’s surface, allowing therapeutic deep penetration into the muscle. Remcom used XFdtd to analyze field penetration into the body of the wearer and provided field strength data in the surrounding region. Based on the initial results, Remcom recommended specific modifications to improve the shielding of the device in order to reduce unnecessary exposure to both the patient and individuals in the surrounding area.
